This is probably the best player with last generation of MTK chip.

So, what's new in my mod firmware:

- 3 MP3 TAG and jpeg preview in a new position.
- 4 fonts for subtile.
- autoload subtitles
- GoTo. Press "Title" twice and enter "h:mm:ss" to jump to time for "avi" files.
- Option to change colors for subtitles (text, outline or background).
- 16 level for vertical position of subtitles.
- "Load Original subtitles, if not found, load all".
- fix "1 sec. srt bug"
- Wordwrap and reformat.
- DVD Quick Play. Menu is DVD-Video, with option "With menu" and "Without Menu". When second is selected, skip DVD menu and play main movie.
- All mpeg4 menu are in "General Page". Can make change when movie play.
- Full support for unicod (ISO+ Joliet and USB),only for 1252 and 1251 (Thanks to shoora)
- Add support for Cyrillic in file browser -USB/ISO+Joliet
- Add PAL and Multi to TV Type. NTSC is default.

I make 2 distinct version:

If you use Vobsub subtitle (sub/idx), I make a version without patch "Load org then all", because with this patch only first sub/idx is loaded.
Also, each version is with or without Volume level (+ -) on Repeat keys.
So, if you use Vobsub subtitle (sub/idx) use version Without ORG Then All
I make version for all usual CP (code page), 1250, 1251, 1252, 1253 and 1254.

CP 1250 (Central European and Eastern European) - Polish, Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, Slovene, Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian (Latin script), Romanian and Albanian.
CP 1251 (languages that use the Cyrillic alphabet)
CP 1252 (America + West European)

CP 1254 - Turkish

Now about upgrade:

Prepare file for upgrade:
burning Upgrade on CD-R / CD-RW
1. Extract the files by unzipping the rar file. Do not rename the extracted files.
2. Write the extracted files – not the rar file – onto a blank CD-R or CD-RW disc,
using the following settings:

- File System: ISO 9660 + Joliet
- File name length : max11 chars = 8+3 (Level 1)
- Mode : 2/XA
- Character set : ISO 9660 (ISO normal CD-ROM)
- No Multi Session
- Write Speed : Low
- Recording Method: Track At Once
Note: The extracted files should not be placed in a folder on the disc but just in the top level directory (root).
3. Finalize the disc. (The application may do this automatically.)

Apply Upgrade to your DVD Player

1. Power on the set and put in the disc.
2. A message will be displayed on the OSD after the upgrade file is recognized.
3. Follow the instruction displayed on the TV Screen – Press “OK” to upgrade (if applicable)
4. After reading the file, the disc will be ejected.
5. Remove the disc after ejected, but DO NOT close the tray
6. Wait approximately 3-5 minutes for the software to be upgraded
7. The set will restart itself once the upgrade is completed.
8. Upon wake up, please perform a “Default reset” in the Preference page under setup menu

Upgrading the firmware of your DVD Player (USB)

Hi and thank you! I upgraded the FW using the USB key, and it was really quick! After pressing the PLAY button, the door opened almost instantly, I thought I hit the wrong button, but I puled out the USB key and waited. Luckily everything went fine.

I have to say, I like the look & feel much better than the original, and really appreciate longer filename display. Thanks very much!

Hello and thank you for your great job!

I have a question though before I start the upgrade of my brand-new dvp5990/37 that I bought in the USA and brought

to Poland.
I have no problem with it's 110 volts of power supply as I have a 220 to 110V power converter.

HOWEVER as for its TV SYSTEM which by default is NTSC I HAVE A VERY BIG PROBLEM on my PAL TV. The picture is a

little "jerky" due to NTSC output.

Is there any chance my player would become a Multi TV system player or have an option of PAL output
after I download your new firmware?

Please PLEASE answer my question as it is of much importance to me now as I don't want to make things worse.
Another thing I am interested in is that my player was bought in January and I am not sure it has a brand new official

Philips firmware installed on it so my question is -
should I install the latest update from Philips site before I upgrade using your firmware?

There is yet another question I have if I may.
I actually am happy with this player as I especially like the way it goes from one video file to another when they are

recorded on my ISO DVD-Rs (There is no menue of the player seen between the clips).
I tried Philips 5982 before and I was disappointed
seeing the light blue menue of the player every time in between the video clips ( I like watching my music videos

recorded raw (ISO) on my DVD-R's). So will this new firmware of yours keep this wonderful feature of DVP 5990 working

same way as now for me or at least is there any way for me to get rid of the menue altogether so it is not seen every

time between short clips.

And finally as of today February 21, 2009 what file exactly should I download from your site to go through upgrade

smoothly and safely?

Thank you very very very much!

Stanislaw
